The course requirements are defined in each course description. The course descriptions can be found on our website or in the welcoming letter, which is sent to those enrolled prior to the beginning of a course. In some cases, the requirements can be obtained from an e-learning service, e.g. Moodle. The requirements may include an exam, a written assignment (e.g. reflective course diary, an essay), and participation in classroom work.
We have separate registration forms for Finnish language courses for foreigners and for other courses. Please fill in a correct form in order to enrol on a course.
The office of the Summer University of Tampere can be found in the building called "Pienteollisuustalo", located opposite to the Tampere Hall. Unfortunately, we cannot offer parking for our students. Both the train and bus station are within a short walking distance from our premises, and we recommend everyone to use public transportation. To reach the university campus area next to our building, use buses number 10, 13, or 22.

The course fees are stated in each course description. Our fees are paid by bank transfers. We send invoices to the participants, and the due date of an invoice is usually when the course begins. N.B. Regarding the Finnish language summer courses, the last day to enrol is four weeks before the beginning of a course.
Please note that every enrolment is binding and can be cancelled without a cancellation fee in the following cases:
A cancellation must be done in writing by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . It is not possible to cancel your participation on the phone.
In case the cancellation is made later than instructed, we will claim 50% of the course fee as a cancellation fee. If the cancellation is made after the course has begun, or it is not made at all, the course fee will be charged in full.
By paying the course fee you purchase yourself a fixed-term right to study; the payment is not connected to course completion.
The courses of the Summer University of Tampere are open for everyone, and we organise education around the year. Everyone who has enrolled on a course and has paid the applicable course fee has the right to study at the summer university, regardless of age and previous studies. Sometimes the applicants must take a test before being admitted on a course, or there might be other prerequisites. In such cases, the prerequisites are stated separately. If the number of participants is restricted, students are enrolled on the course on a first-come, first-served basis. A student is entitled to take part in a particular course by paying the applicable course fee, and, according to our general policy, the student cannot automatically transfer to another course.
Should you be uncertain of your skill level in a language, refer to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CERF) by the Council of Europe. This table helps you decide which course suits you the best.
In case you need help in study-related matters, please contact our office either by sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or directly to the person in charge of the subject in question. You can also call or visit our office. It is possible to schedule a meeting, and this is advisable if you wish to have a longer discussion.
The personnel of the Summer University is happy to help you with matters related to all study practices, as well as practical matters of a more general nature. Some questions will be redirected to other instances, e.g. to a teacher or the Open University personnel.
The Summer University of Tampere has received funds from the Ministry of Education and Culture in Finland for student vouchers, which can be used to cover a part of our education fees.
In case you need special arrangements in order to take part in a course or an exam, please contact our office and we will help you to our best abilities.
In principle, our courses take place either in our own premises or in the premises of the University of Tampere. The Summer University's premises include three classrooms: Suvituuli, Nevotteluhuone and Iltarusko. The place of each course is always mentioned in the welcoming letter, which is sent to those enrolled on a course approximately two weeks prior to the beginning of the course either by post or email.
