ECTS Credits

The scope of the Finnish language courses is not defined in terms of ECTS credits but in terms of teaching hours. One teaching hour consists of 45 minutes of teaching.

Enrolment on a Finnish Course

You can enrol on a Finnish course by filling in the online registration form by the last day of enrolment. The last day to enrol is stated in each course description. Please note that the courses may fill up before the last day of enrolment. Students will be enrolled on the courses on a first-come, first-served basis. There is, however, a waiting list for each course in case it is needed. A course can be cancelled if there are too few participants.

After submitting the form, you will receive an email message confirming your enrolment. The confirmation will be sent within a couple of days after submitting the form. Any information concerning your course is sent mainly by email. Please make sure that we have your current contact information.

Please be careful when choosing the right course for youself. Read the course descriptions, and when choosing the suitable course level, refer to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CERF) developed by the Council of Europe. In case you are uncertain which course to choose, please contact our office so that we can help you to find the course that suits you the best.

Payment

Before the course begins, you will receive an invoice by post to the address you have given when enrolling on the course. The course fee should be paid by the due date stated in the invoice. The invoice is to be paid by a bank transfer. Please use the reference number when paying. Any possible fee charged by the bank is to be paid by the payer and cannot be deducted from the total amount of the invoice. The invoice cannot be paid at the office of the Summer University. The course fee covers the tuition and the material handed out by the teacher (possible text books, accommodation or meals are not included). By paying the course fee you purchase yourself a fixed-term right to study; the payment is not connected to course completion.

Travel Arrangements

The Summer University of Tampere cannot help students with travel arrangements.

Visas

The Summer University of Tampere does not participate in arranging visas. In case you come from a country whose citizens are required to hold a visa in order to travel to Finland, you are advised to contact the Finnish embassy or consulate in your country. We require applicants to demonstrate their visa documents before enrolling on our courses. Those who already live in Finland or in another Schengen country and have a valid, appropriate visa for the duration of the course do not have to present their visa documents.

Please note that visas to Finland are not issued for the sole reason of Summer University studies, since attending Finnish language courses is not regarded as full-time study. This is why we do not send invitation letters to the applicants before receiving the visa documents.
